Back End Line Technician

Position Summary:


It is responsible for the proper functioning, maintenance, and repair of the equipment in the manufacturing production
line of aluminum cans. Ensure proper running start of production lines on time. Keep the documentation up to date
and comply with the specifications and requirements of the can manufacturing process.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Verify production itinerary and prepare documentation for your shift.

  • Perform preventive maintenance work on each equipment in the production line. Ensure minimal “downtime”, as established by the maintenance program.

  • Respond to emergency calls to repair utility equipment such as engines, valves, punches, conveyors, boilers among others.

  • Responsible for maintaining production equipment in the best operable mode with the best quality product and repair any damage.

  • Set-up, maintain, and operate the “Necker”, “Inside Spray”, and “Decorator equipment”.

  • Perform visual checks to ensure that process complies and take appropriate measures.

  • Assist in other areas as needed to maintain smooth can flow through the plant.

  • Complete required paperwork and documentation.

  • Maintain cleanliness of all work areas and machines, and practice proper safety procedures.

  • Communicate all pertinent information between the supervisor, quality control, and between shifts on changes to equipment, production problems or any other related information.

  • Assist, train and/or coach all new operators as needed or required.

  • Apply skills, methods to improve plant production.

  • Inspect products to ensure compliance to quality standards.

  • Responsible in maintaining quality and modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimal efficiency.

  • Operate the Decorator’s machine:

    • Attention to detail to determine registration of a can and to troubleshoot lithography/printer defects and know how to correct.

    • Responsible for maintaining activities of the printer/decorator beverage cans with a focus on optimizing Safety, Quality, Productivity and Spoilage.

    • Ability to operate, safe operation, and the maintaining of decorator equipment.

    • Inspect and monitor, then enter the following can specifications:

      • Over varnish weight

  • Operate Inside Spray machine:

    • Inspect and monitor, then enter the following can specifications:​

      • Finished can height

      • Plug diameter

      • Flange width

      • Dome reformer

    • Adjust flange size when necessary.

    • Adjust dome reformer IBR when necessary.

  • Be responsible of an immediate notification to the Production Supervisor of any defect or occurrence that could cause a quality problem in the manufacturing process and/or any unsafe acts or conditions, as well as areas that need cleaning attention.

  • Analyze the product of the run on the production lines. Analyze and help determine the root cause of quality problems in the production line.

  • The employee must be available and avid to learn new jobs required by Management, including support for areas outside of their daily process.

  • Keep and maintain records and files, prepare reports, order parts and supplies for equipment related to their roles and responsibilities.

  • Ensure the organization and cleanliness of the work area at the end of every shift.

  • Ensures compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Follow and ensure compliance of the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and the current Food Safety System.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Use personal protective equipment at all times.

  • Comply with the policies, procedures and processes established by Florida Can Manufacturing LLC.

Physical Demands:

​

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Sit, stand, and/or walk for periods of five hours or more, move and examine objects at high and low reach, and read for periods of three hours or more.

  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally and regularly stand, stoop, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and balance. This position also requires manual dexterity/fine motor skills.

  • Ability to work up to twelve (12) hour shifts, frequent overtime may also be required.

Education and Experience:

​

  • Associate degree or postsecondary certificate in Mechanic, Repair Technologies or Electromechanical required.

  • At least two years of related experience required.

​
